About Susan G. KomenSusan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatments, and endless days in the hospital, she spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for other women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. Moved by Susan’s compassion for others and commitment to making a difference, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer.Though Susan lost her battle with the disease, her legacy lives on through the work of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the organization Nancy started in her honor. Komen for the Cure is the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1.9 billion since its inception in 1982. Komen’s promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. Across the country, that promise is upheld by a network of 120 local Affiliate offices. At the heart of each Affiliate is a person or group of people who, like Susan, wanted to make a difference.Susan G. Komen Tulsa On the local level, the Komen Tulsa Affiliate works to reduce breast cancer in Tulsa County by funding education, screening and treatment programs with an emphasis on the medically underserved. The organization continues to grow and act as a caring resource for local women and their families. The Tulsa Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure began in 1997 with the first Race for the Cure. Zarrow International School hosts Giant Garage Sale

Due to statewide budget cuts, Henry Zarrow International School (HZIS) parents are forced to come up with alternative ways to provide funding for students and teachers. On September 6th, we are hosting an enormous indoor garage sale, called Bargains at Borders.  It will be located at the old Borders Books on 21st Street. Our goal is to raise $16,000.00 dollars! That’s a lot of dinero! We have been collecting garage sale donations throughout the community for quite some time. We are working very hard to fill the gap that state funding cannot, but we can’t do it without community help from people like you.  HENRY ZARROW INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLHenry Zarrow International Elementary School begins immersing children in the Spanish language in kindergarten. Every subject is taught in Spanish until the second grade, when students are introduced to formal English studies. Research shows that students immersed in foreign language at an early age develop excellent listening skills and stronger creative thinking and problem solving abilities. Zarrow staff have found by the fifth grade, students emerge as bi-lingual citizens with unlimited opportunities.Named after renowned Tulsa philanthropist Henry Zarrow, the school is a child-centered learning community with the goal of producing socially responsible citizens with a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. Students receive instruction in fine arts, physical education, computers, technology, science, music, and the opportunity to learn the Orff instrument process, a method based on the works of European composer Carl Orff. For more information about the Henry Zarrow International School visit thier website at http://zarrow.tulsaschools.org/
