Police arrested Chad Absher after a brief standoff on Wednesday evening, 24 hours after naming him a suspect in the death of Ashlee Rucker.

Absher is also accused of shooting Ashlee Rucker's sister, Lisa Rucker, in the early morning hours of Oct. 31.

According to an arrest warrant, the three of them were at an apartment with Lisa’s boyfriend and two children Tuesday morning.

The warrant says Ashlee and Absher had been arguing because Absher refused to give Ashlee the keys to her car, which he had been driving.

The arrest warrant says, at one point, Absher began choking Ashlee. Lisa's boyfriend told Absher to stop and the two got into an altercation, according to the report.

Lisa’s boyfriend said he was leaving because Absher had a gun. He ran outside and Lisa followed him, the report says.

He told her to go back inside and check on Ashlee. He then heard two gunshots seconds apart, the report says.

Lisa’s boyfriend saw Absher leaving the apartment while zipping up his jacket to conceal a gun, the report says. It appeared to be a rifle or shotgun, he said.

He hid as Absher walked by then ran upstairs into the apartment, where he found Ashlee and Lisa had both been shot in the head, the report says.

Ashlee, who is the mother of an 8-year-old boy, died at the scene. Before she was taken to the hospital, Lisa told officers that Absher shot her.

Lisa was in a medically-induced coma after the shooting but has since awakened. She is expected to make a full recovery.

According to Lisa and Ashlee’s father, Absher had a history of beating on Ashlee, who once had to be hospitalized for injuries he inflicted. She never filed charges against him.

Absher waived his first appearance in court Thursday. He faces murder, attempted murder and possession of a gun by a convicted felon charges.

He was previously arrested for aggravated stalking and firing a gun in 2006.
