Most people have been to an aquarium by the time they're in middle school.

But you've probably never seen an attraction like the one that's soon to be at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston.

The World-Famous Weeki Wachee Mermaids will entertain guests at the aquarium March 28 through April 3.

>> Read more trending stories

Hailing from Spring Hill, Florida, the mermaids swim among hundreds of animals, including fish, manatees and 8-foot-long sharks.

During each show, the mermaids delight guests with a highly technical and choreographed routine to musical numbers.

The mermaids travel nationwide, but they usually perform at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Florida.

At the upcoming exhibit at the South Carolina Aquarium, a limited number of guests will be able to experience a special date night event, Mermaids & Me, designed for all ages and featuring an exclusive mermaid performance in the aquarium's Great Ocean Tank. Each attendee will have the opportunity to meet and take a photo with a friendly mermaid on the land.

17th Annual Spelling Bee benefiting Creek County Literacy Program

The date is set for Sapulpa’s most fun and entertaining event – Creek County Literacy Program’s Annual Spelling Bee is Thursday April 2, 6pm at Sapulpa High School Commons. Back for the 17th year, the Spelling Bee will no doubt be another crazy, word-churning and fun-filled spelling competition.

What do you want to BEE when you grow up?is 2015’s theme. The Spelling Bee is back at Sapulpa High School, so think along the lines of Career Day. (Our Spelling Bee mascot isn’t sure if he wants to be a firefighter, policeman, teacher or nurse.) Your team may want to come dressed as dentists, chefs, crossing guards, ballerinas or fast food workers. However your team comes, make sure everyone is ready to S-P-E-L-L! “Funds raised from the Bee furthers our Mission, which is to encourage, educate and equip aspiring readers to overcome the barriers of illiteracy,” explained Melissa Struttmann, Executive Director of Creek County Literacy Program. “This fundraiser makes up 8% of our annual operating budget.”

CCLP is excited to announce Dick Loftin, Senior Producer and Evening News Host for KRMG and Cox Media Group, as this year’s emcee. Tulsans enjoy his two-hour Evening News of the top stories of the day. “This is the highlight of a very long career in radio. I have many decades in Tulsa radio and have worked for Tulsa’s greatest radio stations, but being the Host of The KRMG Evening News is a career milestone. You can’t be in Tulsa radio without being aware of what KRMG brings to the table,” shares Loftin.

Dick’s interest in radio began at age eight after hearing his brother on a radio station in Muskogee. Dick has worked in Tulsa radio since the mid-70’s. An avid reader and book collector, his reading interests include biography and history. Dick’s favorite author is historian David McCullough.

“Put me around a bunch of 'book people' and I feel right at home,” says Dick.

Kids World at Expo Square

Kids are great explorers…and they have the chance to investigate dozens of cultures and countries at Kids’ World 2014!  This award-winning, international event presented by Tulsa Global Alliance (TGA) has been expanded to four days this year: November 19-22 in the Exchange Center at Expo Square, Tulsa Fairgrounds. Tickets are only $4 for children 18 and under, $5 for adults.

15,000 people are expected to ‘travel’ the world through hands-on activities, entertainment, and culturally diverse foods.  Children can climb on a Mayan Temple and see (nearly life-sized) replicas of Big Ben, the Washington Monument, the Easter Island Moai Heads and a German house.  You can snack on treats from India, the Middle East and other international lands. Try on real wooden shoes from Holland, learn to write your name in Japanese, or hang out in a Jordanian tent…and there is so much more!  This year's festival will include a new set of exciting "hands-on" science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-focused exhibits.

Country and culture examples include Burma, Indonesia, Nigeria, the Cherokee Nation, Brazil, Norway, and Tulsa's 8 Sister Cities:  Tiberias, Israel; San Luis Potosi, Mexico; Celle, Germany; Zelenograd, Russia; Amiens, France; Utsunomiya, Japan; Beihai, China, and Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Tulsa Global Alliance is especially thankful to the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation for their continued support since the festival began in 1993.
