It’s very obvious that the first few song of Brett Young’s career were that of heartbreak. In Case You Didn’t Know, Mercy, Like I Loved You, all are about a breakup and still loving the other person who is no longer your significant other. All of those songs were inspired by Taylor Mills. The couple started their relationship off in college. Their relationship started off long distance... he was in Orange City, California and she was in Arizona at college. Brett Young told People Magazine that he “About every other weekend I drove from Orange County to Arizona to see her.” They did the long distance thing until Taylor graduated and moved to California to be with him. They survived that move. They didn’t survive the next one. At least for a few years. After a 6 year relationship, they broke it off when Young moved to Nashville to pursue his career in music. But it wasn’t over yet...
Now imagine sitting in a car, listening to the radio and you hear the voice of an ex come over the radio, singing a song about your relationship. That’s what happened to Taylor. She told People, “I was driving to work. I didn’t even look down at my radio to see Brett Young and his name. I instantly heard his voice and I pulled over to the side of the road and felt like I was hyperventilating. It was really hard because it brought up a lot of emotion, but I was also so proud of him.” Now, years later, the two found their way back to each other and officially tied the knot as of November 3rd, 2018.
