“We are thrilled to bring back Rock ‘n Rib Festival this year. Despite the inclement weather last year, Rock ‘n Rib Festival still welcomed more than 39,000 people to downtown Tulsa for award-winning barbecue. This is an event people get really excited about and we are proud to celebrate five years of bringing this free event to the public,” said John Bolton, SMG General Manager.

The festival has become a Tulsa tradition and is a celebration of award-winning barbecue ribs, with six teams from across the country showcasing their championship recipes on Third Street and Frisco Avenue outside the arena. These professional “pitmasters” (who have been featured on the Travel Channel, Discovery Channel and Food Network) compete around the world and pride themselves on their cooking techniques, secret recipes, and unique barbecue sauces and rubs. In addition to smoking prime cuts of meat, the rib vendors pay close attention to showmanship. They decorate their expansive spaces with giant banner walls featuring their most recent accolades and tables full of trophies/memorabilia from past events. In addition to barbecue ribs, beef, chicken, a variety of delicious concessions will be available. Sno cones, grilled corn, funnel cake, popcorn, cotton candy, corn dogs, deep-fried pickles, taco salads, kettle corn, smoothies and fresh-squeezed limeade will be for sale. A selection of soft drinks will be offered, along with margaritas, mixed drinks, wine and beer for guests over 21 years of age.

NEW ENHANCEMENTS

Thursday, September 12, the ONEOK Outdoor Stage will present an Earl Clark Tribute featuring Starr Fisher and The Spectrum Band. On Friday, September 13, the festival will host the Inaugural Rib Run 5K and Fun Run presented by Fleet Feet Tulsa starting at 7 p.m. from the corner 3rd Street and Denver Avenue. Also on Friday, September 13, the festival will put on the Five-Year Anniversary Fireworks Display beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m. The Curtis Culinary Stage will make its return with live cooking demonstrations from the pitmasters, as well as local restaurant chefs. The nationally-recognized pitmasters will share trade secrets and present demonstrations on a variety of barbecue-related topics. The Jack Daniels and Southern Comfort Saloon will return for guests over 21 years of age. The expanded adult-only party zones will have liquor, mixed drinks and high-point beer. The party area will be located on the box office plaza near Frisco Avenue and offers a prime view of the outdoor stage.
