Despite being paralyzed in a car accident, Gina Giaffoglione has not slowed down one bit.
KETV reports that the gymnast, a Wayne State College graduate, continues to coach despite being confined to a wheelchair. She also engages in other sports, including tennis and even water skiing. By all accounts, she has adapted physically, mentally and emotionally to her new life.
But there was one special moment that she wished to be free from her wheelchair.
Giaffoglione wanted her father to walk her down the aisle at her wedding.
It was no easy task, but Giaffoglione was up to the challenge. She endured months of therapy and learned how to walk with a custom-designed crutch and brace. The brace was designed so it could be worn comfortably under her wedding gown.
Giaffoglione was married in an outdoor ceremony in September. While her father and fiancé knew she was going to attempt to walk, no other guests were aware of her wish. Friends and family were moved to tears as Giaffoglione successfully walked down the aisle while holding her father’s arm.
