TULSA — Wednesday, the Tulsa City Council will take up an extension of the city’s mask mandate, which would otherwise expire at the end of January.

First passed in July of last year, the city mandated all those 18 and older to wear masks unless precluded from doing so by some medical or mental health condition, or physical limitation.

There were exceptions for diners at restaurants, patients in a medical setting, and so forth, but it was controversial and did not pass without a great deal of discussion.

The council amended it in September, adding children between the ages of 10 and 17 to the mandate, extended the ordinance through January 31st of this year, and added additional exceptions.

District 7 Councilor Lori Decter Wright tells KRMG the likelihood is that the masks will be required for at least a few more months.

The council will revisit the situation in April and consider another extension at that time.
