Tulsa Public Schools begin vaccinating staff members for Covid-19

Right now they’re giving doses to TPS employees 65 and older

Tulsa Public Schools today took a big step toward getting back to normal, giving the Covid-19 vaccine to staff members aged 65 and older.

Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist was asked about Governor Stitt’s news conference on Tuesday, where he singled out Tulsa and Oklahoma City schools for not reopening yet.

“We’re going to stay the course in terms of our Covid-19 protocols and continue taking our guidance from the health professionals,” Gist said.

The vaccines are not mandatory.

The effort is being assisted by the Tulsa Health Department.

Gist says once teachers and staff members in the 65-and-older age group get their shots, they’ll take steps to get the vaccine to the rest of the staff.

Roughly 500 staff members are eligible to get the vaccine in this first group.
