Gwyneth Paltrow says she eats 'far more than bone broth and vegetables' following backlash to her wellness routine

Gwyneth Paltrow made headlines for sharing her daily diet. Now, she's setting the record straight.

Earlier this week, the Oscar winner claimed she mostly consumes vegetables as well as liquids like coffee and bone broth on The Art of Being Well podcast with Dr. Will Cole. She told the functional medicine practitioner, "I eat dinner early in the evening. I do a nice intermittent fast. I usually eat something about 12. In the morning, I'll have something that won't spike my blood sugar, so I have coffee. But I really like soup for lunch. I have bone broth for lunch a lot of the days. Then for dinner I try to eat, you know, according to paleo, so lots of vegetables. It's really important for me to support my detox."

The podcast clip was shared on TikTok — and users did not like what Paltrow had to say.

"This literally sounds like a colonoscopy prep," commented a TikTok user.

"What's she detoxing??? The bone broth???" commented another.

On Friday, the Goop founder further addressed her diet via an Instagram Q&A. On her Instagram Story, Paltrow explained to her followers that she has long COVID, and that her doctor is helping her treat it with "anti-inflammatory" foods.

"I think it's important for everybody to know that I was doing a podcast with my doctor,” she began. “This is a person I've been working with for over two years now to deal with some chronic stuff. I have long COVID, and the way it manifests for me is very high levels of inflammation over time. So, I've been working with Dr. Cole to really focus on foods that aren't inflammatory.”

The Avengers: Endgame star explained that she eats "lots of cooked vegetables, all kinds of protein and healthy carbs to really lower inflammation."

Addressing the backlash over her original comments, Paltrow went on to say that her typical food day was not meant to be taken as advice.

“This was a transparent look at a conversation between me and my doctor,” the mom of two noted. “It’s not meant to be advice for anybody else. It’s really what has worked for me and it’s been very powerful and very positive.”

The Glee alum admitted that not even she can stick to her anti-inflammation "all day, every day."

"I eat far more than bone broth and vegetables. I eat full meals, and I also have a lot of days of eating whatever I want. You know, eating french fries and whatever. My baseline really has been to try to be healthy and eat foods that will really calm the system down," she said.

That even includes things like French fries, she noted.

Paltrow has spoken about her paleo diet preference before. In 2021, she spoke on the Goop Podcast about overhauling her diet in order to manage her long COVID symptoms.

"At the moment, I'm Paleo; that's changed things for me recently because I used to eat a lot of lentils and garbanzo beans and rice and quinoa and things like that," she said at the time. "All of that, for the time being, is off my menu. I’m still dealing with a little bit of long-haul COVID stuff and some inflammation, and so I’m really focused in bringing those inflammation levels down."

However, she also spoke about not being too strict with her regimen, explaining, "I went to Italy for a week this summer, and my diet just went totally out the window. I had wine, and pasta, and dairy, and everything that I’m not supposed to have. And it was great, and I had never been happier.”
