Those crossing the Main Street Bridge in Columbus might want to tread carefully.

That’s because Ohio State University professor David Shetlar estimates that the bridge contains 5,000 to 10,000 spiders.

The bridge’s spider population contains many different varieties.

A naturalist said that the spider infestation actually is a good sign. After the Scioto River was narrowed to make room for a park with hundreds of trees and thousands of plants, the insect population has thrived.

The bright lights on the bridge attract many kinds of flying insects.

The spiders are just following the food trail.
