‘People are sick and dying’ | Stillwater mayor encourages masking, social distancing

STILLWATER, Okla. — Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce took to Twitter Sunday to remind his constituents to take coronavirus seriously.

“The front section of the Tulsa World today not only features an agonizing story on the toll of the coronavirus pandemic on healthcare workers, it also has several large ads taken out by hospitals urging people to wear masks,” Joyce wrote.

On Sunday, the state reported another 3,400 coronavirus cases, including 401 children. An additional 10 people have died, brining the death toll to 1,634, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.

Joyce also said to think about helping healthcare workers who are exhausted and discouraged.

“Pandemic fatigue is real, and none of us wants to have our sacred holiday traditions disrupted,” Joyce wrote. “But people are sick and dying. Nurses and doctors are exhausted and discouraged. We have to recognize the gravity of the situation in our communities and do our part to help.”

Joyce said if you can, avoid close contact with others as much as possible.

“If you can stay home, please do,” Joyce said. “If you have to be out, wear your mask and keep your distance. Wash your hands. Help our healthcare heroes. Stop the spread and save a life.”
