According to WFXT, Marie Merisier, 33, remains jailed on a $100,000 cash bond and is forbidden from having contact with the infant, who is in the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Prosecutors said the incident occurred Friday. Silviana Sanchez said she was walking near Pat’s Pizza on Dorchester Avenue when she heard a baby crying in a nearby trash can, WFXT reported. She alerted authorities, who discovered the newborn inside two plastic grocery bags in the trash can, according to the news outlet.

Authorities said surveillance video showed Merisier leaving the bag in the trash, WFXT reported.

Although Merisier told investigators that she believed that the baby was dead, a man for whom she had been cooking and cleaning said she appeared to be pregnant when she arrived at his home that day, according to WFXT. Merisier spent about an hour in his bathroom, during which the man heard noises and a baby crying, prosecutors said.

Merisier later emerged from the bathroom with a leather bag, from which he heard more crying sounds, he told investigators. He said he then attempted to call an ambulance for Merisier, but she left, prosecutors said.
