UPDATE: Dog is safe following the arrest of two men that severely beat and stomped on her

TULSA, Okla. — Animal advocates say Sunny (formerly Chi Chi) is safe and will know only love from here on.

The Pitbull came to Oklahoma Alliance for Animals (OAA) after an investigation of animal abuse earlier this month. A partnership between Tulsa Police and Tulsa Animal Welfare lead to the arrest of two men after a ring video showed the dog severely beaten and stomped on.

During an interview with FOX23 News, Executive Director of OAA, Erin Shackelford, said, “It’s such an amazing story in that she’s been able to survive and a lot of people have reached out to want to help her.”

Tuesday, Shackelford said OAA announced Sunny would be able to ease her nerves and begin a new chapter while in care at a temporary foster home.

OAA said Sunny still has some medical needs and they need time to learn her personality before she’s ready for adoption.

Shackelford is hopeful the applications will be ready in the next two to three weeks. -Shackelford said they’re thrilled Sunny will have an opportunity to find a second chance at a better life, but also said Oklahoma has a severe pet overpopulation and not every animal has a positive outcome like this one.

She added, " She’s a very gentle, easy going dog given she has every right to be angry, upset or shut down. She comes up to you with an open heart and we’ve all made sure she knows she’s well loved.”

OAA says the animal abuse case and investigation is still ongoing.
