Verdigris police officer honored with ‘Lifesaving’ award

VERDIGRIS, Okla. — A Verdigris police officer was honored at a recent town council meeting after he helped a woman who was trapped inside her car on the train tracks.

Officer Anthony Martinez was on patrol when he heard the sound of a constant horn and he followed the sound to a car accident near Hwy 66 and 266.

A woman was trapped in her car on the train tracks and Officer Martinez was able to stop train traffic and tend to the woman until medical was on scene.

Police Chief Jack Shackelford presented the award to Officer Martinez.
