Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis

Jordan Davis is a contemporary country singer who proudly follows in the footsteps of Sam Hunt, dressing his solid country foundation with a blend of pop, modern R&B, and hip-hop. This fusion can be heard on "Singles You Up," the bright and soulful track that helped push his debut, 2018's Home State, to number six on the Top Country Albums chart. Davis maintained that smooth, cheerful sound on subsequent hits "Take It from Me" and "Slow Dance in a Parking Lot." He then reaffirmed his country roots on 2021's Buy Dirt mini-LP, hitting number one on the Top Country Songs chart with his title track duet with Luke Bryan, a success that set up the 2023 release of his second album, Bluebird Days.

"Singles You Up" appeared after Davis spent several years working as a professional songwriter in Nashville. He moved there from his native Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was born in 1989. Music ran in the family's blood: His father played '70s singer/songwriter fare around the house; Jordan's uncle, Stan Paul Davis, was a professional songwriter who composed two hits for Tracy Lawrence (1992's "Today's Lonely Fool" and 1997's number two hit "Better Man, Better Off"), and his older brother Jacob also pursued a career as a singer.

Initially, Jordan didn't plan a career in music. He graduated from LSU Baton Rouge with a degree in resource conservation, but once he received encouragement from his brother to head to Nashville, he decided to pack up and move to the Music City in 2012. In 2015 he landed a publishing deal with ole Rights Management, and in February 2016 he signed with UMG Nashville. Also that year, he began collaborating with Paul DiGiovanni -- a guitarist who worked with Dan + Shay and Hunter Hayes -- and started work on his first album. Following the success of "Singles You Up," which climbed to number five on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, Davis began issuing a stream of singles in advance of his first album. Home State, his full-length debut, arrived in March 2018, helping to push "Singles You Up" to number one on Country Airplay. Later that year, "Take It from Me" made it to number two on the same chart, while "Slow Dance in a Parking Lot" topped the Country Airplay chart in 2019.

Davis released "Trouble Town," his first post-Home State single, in 2019, but it didn't chart, nor did the Julia Michaels duet "Cool Anymore." "Slow Dance in a Parking Lot," a song pulled from Home State, kept Davis on the charts and airwaves in 2019, reaching number one on Country Airplay. Another new single called "Almost Maybes" wound up climbing into the Country Airplay Top Ten in 2020, anchoring the eponymous EP that appeared in May of that year. A second mini-LP, Buy Dirt, arrived in May of 2021 featuring the title-track duet with Luke Bryan; the single hit number one on the Hot Country Songs Chart.

Davis reached number one again in 2022 with "What My World Spins Around," the first single from his second album, Bluebird Days. Arriving in early 2023, Bluebird Days debuted at 19 on Billboard's Hot 100. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
