Tulsa man sentenced to life in prison for rape charges

TULSA, Okla. — UPDATE, 8/5/2022: Brandon Bills was sentenced to life in prison on Friday after he admitted to raping or attempting to rape three women over the course of one-month last year.

Bills entered a blind plea to 14 charges on Friday, including two charges of first-degree rape and two charges of attempted first-degree rape.

“The women in this case showed tremendous strength and courage in not only fighting off their attacker, but also in coming forward to report and testify,” said Tulsa County Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Elmore. “Their bravery and strength is highlighted when contrasted with the cowardly acts of Brandon Bills. Our office also commends the fine work of the Tulsa Police Department for finding and apprehending this violent sexual predator.”

The Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office encourages anyone to report to police if they have been the victim of a sexual assault.

“It’s hard to imagine the terror.”

Lt. Darin Ehrenrich with Tulsa Police Department’s Special Victims Unit shared more information about the arrest of a suspected serial rapist.

19-year-old Brandon Bills was arrested Friday morning after an search warrant was executed at his apartment, at Union Pointe Apartments.

Ehrenrich said all three attacks happened near multiple apartment complexes near E. 41st Street and S. 129th Avenue.

The first attack happened on Aug. 21. The victim woke up to find a man standing over her. After a struggle, the victim was raped several times. The suspect then stole items from the apartment and left.

Tulsa police immediately began patrolling the area and shifted additional resources to investigate. This included detectives from the Special Victims Unit, the Fugitive Warrants Unit, patrol officers, the K9 division, and the Mingo Valley division. Members of the Forensic Lab also played a huge role in Bills’ arrest.

The second attack happened on Sept. 20. The victim was walking into her apartment when she was grabbed from behind. The victim screamed and fought back. The suspect ran off.

Just three days later, the suspect walked into another apartment. This victim fought back, and the suspect stole some items before running off.

Bills confessed to the crimes and he has no criminal history. He faces multiple felony charges.

All of the victims were Hispanic women who lived in apartment complexes near E. 41st and S. 129th Street. Both complexes were short walks from Bills’ apartment.

Ehrenrich believes there could be more victims, but they may be afraid to come forward due to their immigration status. Ehrenrich encourages any victims to come forward and they will be protected. “Without the bravery of the survivors coming forward, we wouldn’t have a case.”

Tulsa PD’s Special Victims Unit receives about 1,000 cases a year. Ehrenrich says cases like these are rare.
